2011 is here!

Above: Photo taken on 1 January 2011.

So 2010 is gone. 2011 is upon us. I can honestly say that 2010 was an amazing year. I have learnt many new things, worked very hard, had great experiences and some not such amazing ones. I guess that is part of life – the good and the bad times. However, we learn from both – I finished this year with a very positive attitude with some amazing friends that I have got to know other the last 12 months.

As I traditionally do (if one can call it a tradition – considering this is the second year I am doing this), I would like to give an overview of 2010, and then also talk about my plans for 2011.

Looking Back:

  1. Possibly the most memorable experience this year was the experience of loving someone – for me this was very new.I mean, I love my family and many of my friends – so I speak of a more romantic type of love – I have gained love and lost love this year.

    However I do not regret it – I have learn so much from the process and also have come out as a better person – this person helped me make many important decisions in my life – for one – urged me to register to study in 2011.

    For this I am grateful  - I needed a kick to get that done. With love comes a fair amount of pain – this I have also experienced – yet again – I do not regret this at all – it was such an amazing experience.2011, I will be open to love. Something I was always closed to – I thought I never needed anyone else.

    So, thank you.

    “If you love someone, let them go: If they return to you, they will be your’s forever; If they do not, they were never your’s to begin with.” – Anon.

  2. In April 2010, I decided that I needed to follow my vision. I left a company I was working at for around 6 months and started my own business again – SpinningYourWeb.I started SpinningYourWeb in 2005 – when I was 13.

    It is now going into its 6th year of operation. It is finally looking financially viable and I guess this is testament to the power of hard work, consistency and dedication. I love my work – this helps greatly.

    Someone wise said something along the lines of – do what you love, then it is not work.I know where I want my business to be – I know where I want my life to be. I will succeed.

    “There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul.” – Ella Wheeler Wilcox

  3. I have made many great friends. I love my friends. They are what keeps me alive, keep me from loosing my sanity and who are there for me when I am going through a rough time. Without them, I would be nothing.In 2011, I wish to get to know my friends better, to become more involved in their lives and in general, to build some more amazing bridges.

    “You can have friends as numerous as leaves on a tree, but only one good friend will change your life. My life has been changed” – Davide Mancinelli

Looking to 2011:

I have divided this section into two – personal and work.

  1. Personal:

    I have many aims in my life.  One of my aims is to be the best friend I can be to those who mean so much to me. I want to always keep my eyes open to new relationships and bridges that can be made. I find I have a very closed mind – this year, I want to expand my horizons and I want to be open to new things and new experiences.

    I start my studies this year, while working a full time demanding job. I made a decision to drop marketing and to move to my initial interest (which I was talked out of in 2010). I will be starting a long process of extending my education.I will be starting a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics. I would like to take this far – how far – that I am unsure of.

    I want to live a healthy life style in 2011. I want to remove things that make me stressed or add additional complexity to life.Life is not meant to be complex and difficult. Living a healthy life includes relationships (both friendships and romantic), healthy eating, fitness and such. I want to be fulfilled in all these areas – however I want to be open to what fulfillment is in these areas.There is so much I could say with regard to my personal life, however as I experience things – I will write additional blog posts.

  2. Work:

    With regard to work, I aim to continue my commitment and dedication to the businesses growth and success. I want to work harder – I often feel I do not put my all into my work.

    I guess it is important to do this – in order to reach the maximum potential. I need to be more harsh on myself and I need to force myself to work towards goals.In mid 2010, I launched a software project called Capital Software. This product has been in development for over 5 months. We have a number of clients wanting to license this software. This is very exciting for me – I would love for this to become the core of my business – and I know that it has the ability to become financially viable early on in 2011 as we expand the functionality and make the correct partnerships.

I think that is about it from me for now. I wish all my readers great success in 2011 and I hope that it is a productive year for all.

Here’s to 2011 and whatever it brings us, lets be open to anything.

Government Intervention; The destroyer of the Free Market

Traduction du texte en Français: L’intervention du gouvernement ; le pourfendeur du marché libre

There is no doubt that I am a supporter of the free market – all the amazing benefits which come from it and the overall successful implementation around the world of the system.

So what is this? Well there are many interpretation of what exactly the free market economy is. This is my definition of the free market economy though – “It [the free market economy] is an economic system which is guided by the invisible hand which is controlled by natural market forces. This hand in the market is self regulating and determines in essence what will and wont survive”.

Before you say it – “Look, the free market failed in such and such a year, in such and such a place”. My response is no – it did not fail. Why so? Well the concept of the free market is that it works without external intervention in the markets forces. What would this external intervention be?

If we look at the most recent world economic crisis (which many nations are still working out of), we will see that the leader of the recession – The United States of America’s government began interfering in the economy. When government begins to regulate banks (look at the Clinton years and the 2000’s recession), problems begin to occur. The obvious example of this would be the government forcing banks to offer loans and mortgages to people who are unable to afford the repayments. When interest rates are artificially altered (as often they are), this leads to a state in which credit often becomes so easily accessible. This will without a doubt lead to a peak of what we call a bubble. This bubble is inflated through the affordability of debt.

Then what happens? Well the bubble essentially pops and the markets go into free fall. Government at this stage (which has done enough damage), attempts to fix things by making credit more expensive (lifting the interest rates), this creates the situation in which debt becomes overwhelming and debt repayments in essence are not met. Logically, this leads to the repossession of individuals, corporations and other bodies possessions. Corporations which expanded due to the availability of cheap credit now are forced to lay off large numbers of staff members which lifts the unemployment rate.

Many economist then suggest that government will introduce social welfare programs and projects (such as done in the 1930’s with the Great Depression) which will make the recession dramatically worse and more drawn out. Now that it is rather evident that this failure of the free market system, in fact is not a product of the free market philosophy, but rather an interference from external factors of the market, we are able to look at the benefits of the free market economy.

The free market economy in essence is a market system which regulates itself. It has no government intervention and is free of all forms of external intervention. This market system is driven of the natural forces of the market, self interest, competition and supply and demand. Such a market system is often referred to as the laissez-faire approach.
This invisible hand in the economy ultimately is controlled by the forces of supply and demand and in a situation of excess of the provision of supply – it results in a certain action. What is this action? The simple answer to this is that there then is an excess of supply of the certain product which leads to a reduction in the retail price, which in essence leads to a reduction in revenue generated from the sale of the good or service. This is the perfect example of how the market is controlled by the natural forces of supply and demand and also how they regulate the market.

This market system is driven off healthy competition. Competition is what creates the best product for a consumer. It is clear that people living in markets which are monopolized are receiving a less than satisfactory end good or service from the provider of the good or service. Why is this so? Well companies who operate in the imperfect market have no competition. This means they are the price choosers and they in essence are making the choices about the quality of the end good or service. This leaves a situation in which consumers are powerless. In the free market, the economy is driven by the perfect market in which consumers own the factors of production and they are the price choosers.

This means that the consumers have full knowledge on the possible goods and services that they could receive from alternative providers and this becomes for corporations – the battle for the revenue from the consumers. What does this lead to? Well it leads to a situation of healthy competition and this is better for the consumer. The consumer now has the option to choose a homogenous good or service from a wide array of corporations all competing to make the best good or service for the lowest price.

Self interest is the driver of any economy. I would like to clarify what this means to me. I look at this and think – thats greed. Then when thinking about it – why does anyone work hard? Most people will answer – in order to future myself, my position, my business and so on. The free market economy has the ability to cleanse out the weaker elements and in doing so – it often has affects such as business going bankrupt. This must happen – business must not be propped up by government. Those employees at such companies can go onto working for other organisations which are more powerful or they can – most importantly as it is the driver of economic growth in the world – start up their own business which is driven by the same forces of supply and demand and it powered by innovation which leads to new products. Necessity is the mother of invention, however this cannot go without innovation and dedication.

The free market, because it works on self interest, is where the worlds greatest inventions and products come from as they are environment which are supportive of such growth. The country that runs the most of such principles is the United States of America – however they have even failed at doing this in its purest form. In conclusion – ask yourself which nation has made the largest number of breaking news technologies? Then ask – what economic / government style was ruling at the time. More and more, we are seeing communist nations (which by no means are free market economies) – leaning towards a more free market approach. They are backed by the free market nations – what would China be without the United States (or other free market like nations) consumption?

They would in essence be nothing!

Hello Rasool,

Let me handle your questions that you asked in the previous post, then I will come to what I have to say about the long article that you attached;

I want you to know, that to me, what I am discussing here has nothing to do with the religion (however this could be a massive debate backing to ages ago, and of course you will have a conflicting view to me on this too) , I am not a Jew, Muslim or a Zionist. However I see that you are a member or some sort of affiliate and a sympathizer to the people of Palestine – seen in your Palestine Support Group and your pro-Palestine poetry, so of course you are going to do absolutely anything to defend anything that is done against Israel, where as myself, I am not a member of any pro this or that groups and I do not share a religion or faith with any of the groups. I have taken the time to look into the history and have identified that;

a.)Hamas has committed acts of terrorism
b.)Hamas has been classified and is internationally recognized as terrorist organization, and not only by America, but by many of the other countries in this world. So I think that you need to stop trying to say that Hamas is not a Terrorist organization
c.)Rasool (now I dont want you ducking from this question, its really important that the readers get an answer to this) What does your religious book say about the Infidel? Correct me if I am wrong – All followers of Allah have been commanded to to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can have a place in heaven? Is that correct?
d.)Did you know, that according to International – INTERNATIONAL law, Israel is still within their boundaries legally.
e.)My answer to the apartheid question would be – different. One is done out of hate of a group of people, however, what Israel is doing is out of pure defense and out of pure protection for their people. I dont think that you would be vocal at all if this war was the other way around.

Answer these questions for me before you make any more statements;

1. Where were the protest marches all those years Hamas was firing rockets into Israel?
2. If you see a group of kids playing in the park… not harming anyone, would you be upset if someone constantly fired rockets at them, killing a few here and there?
3.If your neighbor was firing rockets into my back yard putting your children in danger, what would you do, would you just leave it because maybe only one or two of your children get hit and die?

As expressed by many readers, I feel sorry for those who die in the pursuit of peace, bu that it what happens very often in order to secure peace, you critiqued me on this point a while ago, but let me back it up;

When Hitler was disrupting peace and taking over masses of land and killing thousands and thousands of people, do you think the rest of the world should of said, well in order to make peace there we should do nothing and lets say, just let things work themselves out? I think not!

Now to the article, Rasool, I am sure that you will agree with me, that in every group of people, Jewish, Muslim and so on, you will have extremists and then you will have people who are not. This is probably written by one of those kinds of people.

This is how I see the situation in a step by step guide;

1. Israel has agreed to a peace treaty
2. Hamas breaks the peace treaty
3. Israel does nothing, but maybe warns Hamas
4. Hamas is not interested in the warnings, no they know what their objectives are – to see Israel destroyed! TO SEE ISRAEL DESTROYED!!!
5. So they continue firing their rockets, and Israel does nothing.
6. One day Israel thinks enough is enough, we need to deal with the treat and the constant fear that our people live in
7. They vow to attack until certain objectives are met
8. The rest of the world (well actually not, America does not) backs Palestine? Why did they not back Israel when Israel was being attacked

Rasool, stop trying to debate the fact that Hamas is not a terrorist organization, they have been declare one, and in fact that is a generally agreed upon things – Hamas is a terrorist organisation

It is so clear that you are a Palestine Supporter and therefore, of course you will not be willing to see any fault on the behalf of Hamas. Your opinion and your understanding of the situation seems to overshadow anything that has happened to Israel, and you continue to ignore certain select statements and questions I have made. I want to answers to those questions, I answered your, now you answer mine.

Official Response: Rasool Snyman

The following is the official response to the Hot Topic: Gaza / Israel comment by Rasool Snyman, which aired on both noelharrison.net and sweetbru.com on the 10th of January 2009;

Rassool – Thanks for your comment. I had done plenty research into the topic as I saw that comment coming up about me checking the facts, and here is the thing, nothing in this post can be disputed. Everything is backed up factually, go check your sources (which are backed up in multiple places, so even you will find it easy to see that what I have said), go read the Koran, go do your research and then come back to the debating table, I feel that you are actually the one who is in “not know” category and until you can back your statements made, you remain in that category in the eyes of me and by the other comments, it seems in the eye of the general readers of this blog.

You know, I feel that the stated aim of Hamas is enough for Israel to take such actions, their goal: See Israel Destroyed? How would you react to this, put yourself in the position of Israel and think, if you had a group wanting to kill you, and not hiding the fact they want to kill you, what would you do.

I recommend that you look past what you hear in the media, I recommend that you look past the common beliefs and I recommend that you look past the popular opinion and actually do hours and hours of hard research and then, and only then are you ready to come back to the debating table, don’t come here with your insults, until you know the facts, do not come here and make accusations. More so, you must of never heard the saying “No pain, no gain”, that I feel covers the war for peace comment.

Now to be honest with you, I posted this post on my personal blog, and subsequently was asked to post it here, so I admit that I am siding with Israel, although I do not share their belief, I have looked at the clearly stated facts, and have made my decision as to whom to support, and my choice is Israel. I look forward to your read up response.

Hot Topic: Gaza/Israel

Before we go into the actual discussion of this particular unrest, I feel that it is important to get a fuller understanding of the situation that had been developing in Israel and Gaza before Israel began firing rockets and attacking Gaza in full force.

General Background:

Gaza is a heavily populated area of land holding approximately 1.5 million people in the size of about two times the size of Washington. The United Nations organization has estimated that the area’s unemployment rate is sitting close to 50%. Many sanctions have been placed on them which has caused much damage to the economy and to their economic growth.

The main usage of the ground is for the cultivation of citrus. Other main crops are olives and wheat. This is exported. Their main language is Arabic but they also speak English and Hebrew.

The Gaza was occupied by the Israeli troops from 1967 until 1993 when the forces removed and limited power was handed over to the Palestinians. Hamas a political faction in the area took control by force in 2007 pushing out the government of President Mahmoud Abbas who was a part of the opposition group of Hamas. The United States has declared Hamas as a terrorist group.

Geographical Positioning:

Hamas Control of the Gaza Strip:

By the June of 2007, the Gaza Strip was “completely overrun by Hamas” which now basically controls the Gaza Strip and has declared itself the legitimate government of the Palestinian National Authority. The Palastinian President however did not agree with this and immediately declared a state of emergency and disolved the unity government and reformed but this time without the participation of Hamas. The government of Abbas won large international support.

According to Amnesty International, Hamas closed down newspapers and harassed journalists. Christians had also been threatened and assaulted. The owner of a Chrisitian book shop was abducted and murdered and on the 15th of February 2008, the Chrisitian Youth Organisation’s library was bombed.

Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza continued to attack Israel across the border with Quassam rockets and according to Israel, between the Hamas take over of the Gaza Strip and the end of the January of 2008, 697 rockets and 822 mortar bombs were fired at Israeli towns and cities. Israel’s response to this was to declare the Gaza Strip a “hostile entity”. By doing this, it made it “ok” for Israel to cut the fuel and electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip. This lead to power shortages in the Gaza Strip. Hamas has used many public buildings such as schools and hospitals as staging grounds for attacks and retaliations.

Now that we have a better understanding of the canvas of the current unrest in the Gaza Strip / Israel, I am going to enter into the current situation and give my opinion on the matter;

  1. At this point in time, I do not feel that peace is the answer. I believe that sometimes in order to reach peace, (which by no terms the Gaza Strip was before Israel attacked) one needs to go to war. In order to achieve great peace, we very often need great sacrafice. The common saying is no pain, no gain.
  2. Hamas has been sending rockets into South Israel. Even though only a few of these missiles have hit a target and even though very few Israelis have died in such a manner, the rockets cause fear to those living in Israel.
  3. These attacks are one of Israels strategies to ensure that Hamas fails in the governing of the Palestinian people who chose Hamas to elect them in the beginning. Also another thing, if the people elected them into power, surely these people are backing Hamas and then directly are backing the attacks on Israel, so when we speak of the innocent being killed, in fact how innocent are they? The people deserve the government that they choose, so should that government lead them into war, the people should accept the consequences that come with that government.
  4. If you were being bombed and attacked by a neighbour for 8 days, what would you do? I think the answer is reasonably clear. You are going to retaliate, you are going to fight, and you are not going to fight lightly.
  5. Hamas is Muslim, In the holy Koran, the killing of the infidel is supported. This means that the Muslim religion supports the killing of anyone who is not Muslim. Israel is a predominately Jewish country, so how should they take that? I think that for that reason, one could say the attacks by Israel are purley defensive.
  6. Hamas has refused to accept a the ceasefire, and have openly stated that one of their requirement is to see Israel destroyed. Hamas does not want peace!
  7. Between the 19th of June and the 4th of November, Israel and the Gaza Strip were meant to be at peace, however, Hamas still insisted on firing 65 rockets into Israel, Israel had done nothing in retaliation, until now! (Thank you DarkAl for some of these facts from answers.yahoo.com)

All in all, I feel that the attacks on the Gaza Strip is the right thing to do. I think it shows terrorists (Hamas) that they can not do as they please, and I think that it is a pity that so much of the world are giving them sympathy and worse so pointing fingers and becoming angry with Israel. Go Israel! Go until the terror stops!

Has Israel gone to far? – by Gary Bauer

Gaza / Israel Attacks

I was emailed this wonderful opinion of the war / attacks going between Hamas and Israel. I am not all that clued up on the topic, but I understand a basic jist of what is going on, and by what I can see, I feel that Israel is doing the right thing. I have attached this email which was originally authored by Gary Bauer.

- START EMAIL –

To judge by much of the world’s response to Israel’s actions since being besieged by Hamas rocket attacks is to answer in the affirmative. But while much of the media and political Left continue to present the radical Islamists as “David” and Israel as “Goliath,” a closer look shows that Israel waited as long as it could before responding to an enemy whose sole reason to exist is to ensure that the Jewish State won’t.

For months, Hamas thugs in Gaza have fired missiles and mortars into southern Israel, subjecting hundreds of thousands of Israelis to a campaign of 24-hour terror. This was done in clear violation of an Egyptian-negotiated cease-fire to which Hamas had agreed. Hamas ended the truce even against the wishes of some Muslim heads of state. Then after pounding Israel for a week, and after Israel warned it would respond,

Hamas did nothing but continue bombing, targeting civilian centers across southern Israel.

Gaza / Israel Attacks
So while the world collectively yawned during months of Hamas attacks against Israel, when Israel did what any sovereign nation would do under the same circumstances — striking back at those responsible for the aggression — it was met with a chorus of condemnation. The American Left is planning to hold “Gaza solidarity” rallies today in 26 states; thousands demonstrated in Washington D.C.; protestors met outside the Israeli embassy in London; and 2,000 Germans demonstrated against Israel in Berlin.

The Israel-bashers argue that, since most rockets and mortars fired by Hamas into Israel have missed their targets, Israel should not respond effectively. But under international law, any nation can respond at a level sufficient to meet the threat. Hamas rocket attacks are destroying normal life and have made daily routines impossible for countless Israelis whose children cannot go to school. Israel has every legal and moral right to demolish the terror infrastructure that supports the daily rocket attacks on its people.

Of course, we’ve seen this movie before. The same scenario has been played out numerous times. In August 2005, Israel spent billions of dollars relocating thousands of its own citizens from settlements in Gaza, only for that act of beneficence to be interpreted by Hamas as validation of their brutal terrorism. Gaza was transformed into, in Benyamin Netanyahu’s words, “a huge base for terror.” In February 2007, Hamas used Gaza to launch thousands of rockets that hit civilians in Ashkelon.

And, just as night follows day, each time Israel responds with force, it is condemned for its “disproportionate response.” This time around, more than 300 Palestinians have been killed, against four Israelis. But here’s why. Gaza is one of the most densely populated areas of the world, and Hamas is infamous for hiding among its constituents, using them as human shields. Weapons are being stored in mosques. The only university in Gaza has turned its labs over to the terrorists, who are using them to make bombs and mortars. These cowards intentionally set up their bases near schools and hospitals to maximize the number of casualties to gain sympathy in the media.

Gaza is hell, but not because of Israel. Its conditions are unbearable because its people elected Hamas — an organization with no economic plan, no educational ideas, nothing to offer at all except to kill the Jews, kill the infidel and destroy Israel.

Gaza, in recent years, has been turned into “Gazastan,” an Islamic republic that educates its own children to seek death in martyrdom operations. Gaza TV airs children’s shows that teach six and seven year-olds to kill Jews. The Gaza government just instituted a new legal code based on Sharia Islamic law that permits crucifixion for certain crimes against Islam.

Hamas exists to wreak havoc and destroy Israel. And it has acted accordingly since its inception. Between 2000 and 2004, Hamas was responsible for the deaths of 400 Israelis, according to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.The Hamas charter states that “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.” And, “[t]here is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.” Hamas also is a proxy of Iran, whose president denies the Holocaust and vows to “wipe Israel off the map.”

Tuesday, Israel rejected international pressure to end air strikes against Hamas, which continues to hit Israeli civilian centers across Southern Israel. Though the number of Israeli casualties may be small, Hamas doesn’t really mind if its missiles fail to hit their targets. As long as Israel hits its targets, and as a consequence more Palestinian civilians are killed, Hamas is content, because images of dead Palestinians helps Hamas in the eyes of its real target, public opinion.

The New Year will bring nothing new to Gaza so long as Hamas is allowed to perpetuate the same old vicious cycle of provocation, reprisal and international outrage against Israel.

Would you like to buy a senate seat?

The corruption is flying even before Barack Obama enters the White House. Take a few moments to watch the below videos, and then if you are a Barack Obama supporter, ask yourself, is this the kind of leader you would want leading the United States of America.

Barack Obama refuses to comment on this in anyway what so ever. So much for governmental transparency!

“Limbaugh Blasts Powell for Criticizing Palin and GOP, Calls Him a ‘Turncoat’” – Go Limbaugh

This article was brilliant, and I was so happy that Limbaugh responded and gave the turn away Republican – Colin Powell a run for his money. Colin Powel who was a Republican, but in a unbelievable turn of events endorsed Barack Obama. Below I have attached the transcript from Rush Limbaugh;

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank all of you for your e-mails of support regarding this interview that Colin Powell did on CNN yesterday.  The whole thing wears me out.  It’s nothing new except now it’s coming from ostensibly the Republican Party.  Now, Snerdley is livid, many of my staff and friends are livid.  To me, it’s not that big a deal.  I think Powell’s premise — and I understand what’s going on — I think Powell’s premise is all wrong.  The Republican Party needs to stop listening to me.  Basically, what that means is the Republican Party’s gotta throw you overboard; the Republican Party can’t win as long as it is defined by people like you and me, those of you in this audience.  The simple fact of the matter is, folks, what makes this funny to me is that the Republican Party’s not listened to me in the last two years.  And you might even say in matters of policy and so forth, the Republican Party hasn’t been listening to me for the last six years.  And you might even say that the Republican Party is in the situation it’s in precisely because of the people like Colin Powell and John McCain and others who have devised this new definition and identity of the party which is responsible for electing Democrats all over this country.

So I think it’s actually somewhat funny.  I really do.  They’re not listening to me, and I don’t do this program for these people to listen to me.  They misunderstand the whole point of this program and what we do here.  The Democrats and the liberals always have, and I guess McCain and Colin Powell are showing their true colors.  Here is Colin Powell telling the Republican Party what to do after he voted for Obama!  I know what really has Colin Powell upset, it’s because I said his endorsement of Obama was about race, and I’m not supposed to say those things.  These things are supposed to go unsaid.  The Republican Party nominated Powell’s perfect candidate.  The guy’s going after moderates, independents, Democrats, a guy who is not conservative at all, McCain, didn’t stand up for much conservative, and he’s out there now saying he won’t support Palin if she seeks the presidency again, or he might not.

Colin Powell, ladies and gentlemen, insists that conservatives and Republicans support candidates who will appeal to minorities like I guess McCain who led the effort for amnesty.  He insists that conservatives and Republicans move to the center like McCain, who calls himself a maverick for doing so.  General Powell insists that conservatives and Republicans provide an open tent to different ideas and views, like I guess McCain, who repeatedly trashed Republicans and made nice with Democrats.  I mean, their tent’s big, they just don’t want us in it.  John McCain is and was Colin Powell’s ideal candidate.  All these moderates, Bill Weld, all these moderates that crossed the aisle and voted for Obama, they got their ideal candidate, and they got their ideal campaign in McCain.  Once McCain was nominated as the Republican candidate, largely by independents and Democrats voting in Republican primaries, Colin Powell waited ’til the last minute, when it would do the most damage to McCain and the Republicans and endorsed Obama.  And when I said it was largely about race, that’s what set ‘em all off, you’re not supposed to say these kinds of things.  This is supposed to go unspoken.

So if we try to understand Powell’s thinking, which is difficult since it’s incoherent, we should have all voted for McCain in the primaries, and once he was nominated, we should have voted for Obama for president.  That’s what we should have all done, if you listen to what Powell said on CNN yesterday.  There’s something interesting — and Snerdley picked up on this — he said that Powell in the CNN interview is talking to Republican leaders about tossing me out, when I’m not in. (laughing) This remains to me to be the funny thing here.  It would be one thing if Republicans were listening to me and going down in flames, but they’re not, and they haven’t for the longest time.  So Powell is talking to Republican leaders about tossing me out of the party, and people should stop listening to me and helping Democrats with any legislation that might be aimed at taming talk radio.  This is what Snerdley thinks he meant by virtue of what he said in that interview.  He did say he’s talking to the leaders — leaders of what?  The Republican Party?  He’s getting together to talk with the leaders about me?  When was the last time I was on a ballot? When was the last time I raised money?  When was the last time I wrote a plank in the party platform?

I wish my parents were alive.  I say this at least once a week.  They wouldn’t believe, here we are, ladies and gentlemen, in the midst of an economic crisis, an automobile potential bailout, now we got this Bernard Madoff thing that’s happened, and this is fascinating, this is overwhelmingly fascinating to me, when you understand what happened, all of this going on, we got reporters in Baghdad throwing a shoe at George W. Bush and the Drive-By Media here in this country is very excited about it.  Fact of the matter is, ladies and gentlemen, this incident shows that we have succeeded in Iraq.  Had this guy thrown his shoe at Saddam Hussein, he would have been shot five minutes later.  This guy is still alive to be made a star by the Drive-By Media around the world.  Long live freedom; long live democracy.

What’s going on here with this Colin Powell thing is that the Washington establishment — Powell’s not a Republican.  McCain’s not a Republican.  These guys are not even mavericks.  They are Washingtonians.  Washingtonians have their own culture and their own desires, and it is to matter.  They don’t care who’s in power, they just want to be closely associated with whoever is.  That’s the name of the game and they want press adulation.  They want to be loved and adored by the media, they want fawning treatment, they want to be thought of as something special, unique, dignified and so forth, and that’s the Washington establishment.  These guys are Washingtonians.  And what is a Washingtonian?  Who are these people?  Ladies and gentlemen, they have driven this economy into the toilet.  Washingtonians are tone deaf in terms of how you and I actually live and the things that matter and are important to us.  Washingtonians are grabbing as much power for themselves right now as possible.  Washington does not live in the rest of the country, does not live in the same world we do.  What they’re doing now is looking for ways to silence opposition.  They don’t care about the timid ineffective opposition.  They like Republicans and conservatives who are ashamed of their views and their fellow citizens.  What they want to do is silence people like me because they can’t abide debate or opposition or challenges to their status and their authority.

So General Powell, let me explain something.  The fact is Republicans did not listen to me.  They listened to you.  They have not been listening to me for years.  The Republican Party nominated your ideal candidate.  They nominated your guy, a moderate, who’s willing to buy into an endless array of liberal causes, from global warming — there’s an AP story out today that says we are cooling this year, and by the way, record lows in Denver, we have record lows in Montana.  We actually have a story on global warming from the AP today, and in the last couple paragraphs it says — Rachel, you’ll love this, because I know you think Algore is a genius — it says here that this cooling perfectly illustrates how the world is warming.  Folks, we got more problems than you can possibly imagine.  That’s just lunacy.  That is just insanity.  And that’s modern journalism.  We’re freezing our butts off.  We have our fifth cold front that went through here, and we normally haven’t had the first one yet.  Five cold fronts!  Cold for us, but I mean look it, weather is weather.  Record lows in Denver.  And all of this freezing cold points out how the world is so rapidly warming, it perfectly illustrates it, the guy says.

He quotes a scientist here that says species are going extinct like never before, and I’ve got a story about 70 brand-new species discovered in the Mekong Delta.  We can’t trust anything that we see in the media anymore.  It’s all agenda oriented, and it’s all oriented toward the agenda of Washingtonians.  As long as you are a Republican, but you buy into an endless array of liberal causes, global warming to amnesty for illegals, and somebody who has the same fetish for compromising principles that you do, then they are going to love you.  Then you turn around and you stab this person in the back by endorsing the most liberal Democrat candidate ever nominated days before the election, General Powell?  You want to lecture me about how the Republican Party needs to stop listening to me when they are not?  They are listening to you.  I also have to question something here.  How can he say he’s a Republican?  He gets the perfect Republican nominee, exactly the kind of candidate he wants, it’s McCain, and then he sabotages McCain a few weeks before the election by endorsing Obama.  How can you even claim to be a Republican, General Powell?  When have you ever stuck your neck out for Republicans and conservatives?  Never.  I mean sabotage George W. Bush with the Armitage leak and Scooter Libby, that’s just one thing, but Ronald Reagan, Bush 41, Bush 43 all helped advance General Powell’s career.

Now, there are exceptional military men and women throughout our nation who could have served as national security advisor or chairman of the chief joints of staff, to quote Rita X, many ex-military people who could have been the secretary of state.  Hell, Hillary can do it, anybody can do it.  I’m sure you did a good job, General Powell, certainly nothing exceptional, you’re no George Marshall.  But I can’t think of a single occasion where Secretary Powell stepped up to the plate for the Republican Party or the conservative movement.  I think of many times when he has not done so or even worse.  I’ve noticed on the one hand General Powell claims to stand above politics as a big claim to fame.  Yet, on the other hand, he jumps in from time to time, but only to attack the conservative base of the Republican Party.  When’s the last time, the first time, when is any time he has let loose or criticized a liberal Democrat on any issue?  Now, here’s the problem.  General Powell, and folks, this problem I think is systemic in the Republican Party in Washington.  People like General Powell seek to ingratiate themselves with the people who despise the Republican Party and despise the conservative movement.  They’re out there preaching moderation all along the way, when instead you should be preaching principle.

Principle is what got you where you are.  Moderation is what keeps you where you are with this great reputation, great image but no substance, no principles, no core belief.  If somebody had to tell you who Colin Powell is, what would they say?  What does he stand for?  What does General Powell stand for?  What does John McCain stand for?  You don’t know.  There aren’t any core beliefs you can go rat-tat-tat down the list and say, yep, this is who they are.  Was Abraham Lincoln great because he saw compromise during the Civil War or was he great because he insisted on total and complete victory?  Great people take stands on principle, not moderation.  Some of us think that individual liberty, limited constitutional government, and increased support for the military by civilians are principles worth defending.  Maybe General Powell can enlighten us, since he’s failed to do that so far on the great liberal or moderate Democrat principles that seem to intrigue him.  What is it about Obama that intrigued him?  What are these principles?  Or was it the way Obama speaks?

General Powell says we need to reach out to Hispanic, blacks, and Asians.  Well, how do we do that?  What kind of message does he suggest?  I never hear the “how” to do it.  I just hear we need to do it.  And in my mind, we already have the blueprint for how to do it.  We have done it successfully.  We abandoned the blueprint.  It’s called individual freedom, liberty, and not seeing them as Hispanics and not seeing them as Asians and not seeing them as blacks or minorities, but rather seeing them as Americans, human beings.  Liberals look at people and groupify them and then think of them with contempt.  I mean are all black people identical thinkers, if we understand what one of them thinks we know how to get to all of them, is that true?  Same thing with Asians? Same thing with Hispanics?  General Powell has no vision.  He is not in touch with the public in any meaningful way.  He’s a Washingtonian.  He’s not in touch with the public.  He lives in a bubble so he doesn’t have to expose himself to contrary arguments.  He just has to accept accolades from the people he treasures and values most, his buddies and the media.  He doesn’t add anything to the public discussion.  What has he added to the public discussion?  What has he done to advance a principle? He is constantly peddling his identity and his reputation rather than anything substantive or insightful.

I’m sure he’s a delightful person with his friends and I’m sure he’s charitable with his time and his money, but he has no idea what he’s talking about when he presumes to dictate how Republicans and conservatives should build a governing majority.  One of the things he said is he resents Sarah Palin because she kept talking about small towns.  He said nobody lives in small towns and that’s why they’re small.  “I’m from the Bronx.  Something wrong with my values?” he asked.  What is this hatred for conservatives and small town people and Sarah Palin?  It’s because they are effective.  They represent challenges to the Washingtonians’ control of the Republican Party.  I know a lot of people that are from the Bronx, General Powell, and if you think the values there in the Bronx today reflect the ones you grew up with, take a trip back and see if the street corners and the activities there are the same as when you were growing up, General Powell.  Quick time-out.  I spent more time on this than I intended to because we got other things to do.

RUSH: Let me get this straight.  The guy who has supported the Republican candidate for president should be thrown out of the party.  That would be me.  But the guy who bolted and sabotaged the Republican nominee by endorsing the Democrat candidate should stay in and be part of the team that determines what the Republican Party is going to be.  The turncoat, General Powell, is the one who the party is gonna listen to? McCain’s a moderate.  I supported McCain.  Powell, who wants a moderate, did not support McCain.  It’s unreal.  It’s just incredible.  Look, I’m trying to be a little humble here, but it’s hard when you got all this other stuff going on and Republicans out there now continue to trash me.  It’s flattering; it is amazing.  At the same time, it’s mind-boggling how I get under their skin.  What I’m learning now, folks, it really doesn’t matter about party.  It’s not getting under Republicans’ skin now. It’s getting under the skin of Washingtonians.  It’s getting under the skin of the Big Government people. These are liberals.  There’s no such thing as a moderate Republican.  A moderate Republican is a liberal.  General Powell, says, “I’m a fiscal conservative; I don’t like the social stuff.”  What’s wrong with the social side? It’s abortion.  But it’s more than that, it’s Washingtonianism.

RUSH: Robin, Las Cruces, New Mexico, great to have you on the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hello?

RUSH:  Hi.

CALLER:  Hi.  When I called, I was so furious at Colin Powell’s remarks and I’ve calmed down a little, but my response is how dare he tell you what he thinks.  When I remember his public statement, when he was keeping us twisting in the wind about whether he would run for president, that he had decided not to because of his wife’s concern for his personal safety.

RUSH:  Right.

CALLER:  And I believe Saturday Night Live calls this “p-whipped.”  And the very idea that he should tell you what you should do or the Republican Party what it should do just blew all over me.

RUSH:  Well, I appreciate your loyal support.  He can tell the Republican Party what they should do.

CALLER:  Well, he can’t tell you –

RUSH:  Look, Colin Powell is a Washingtonian, and his happiness derives from how much he is loved and respected by fellow Washingtonians.  I’ll never forget back in the days when the Republicans wanted him to run for president, he would not admit what party he was a member of and he wouldn’t tell us what he thought about anything because he was worried that his approval numbers, which were pretty high, would plummet.

RUSH: I hold here my formerly nicotine-stained fingers a piece from National Public Radio, and it is by Matthew Continetti.

Matthew C. says in his headline:  “‘Why Conservatives Shouldn’t Be Cheery’ — The only age group that went for McCain was 65 and older. That’s not what you would call a good sign for the Republicans’ long-term future.”  Now, get this: “The GOP’s problem is that it obstinately refuses to address the problems facing those Americans who do not listen to conservative talk radio.”  Whatever the hell that means.  I don’t even care what it means, but the interpretation here is that who and who are on the same page?  Colin Powell and National Public Radio are on the same page, advising the Republican Party.  And this is classic what’s going on amongst Washingtonians.  The Republican Party is being told what to do by liberal Democrats, including General Powell, who is a moderate liberal Republican.  I find all this fascinating.  I have nothing to do with what the Republican Party does. I have nothing to say about it.  And the Republican Party nominated McCain.  I thought all these people, NPR, Colin Powell, used to love McCain.  They got the candidate and they got the campaign they wanted.  Then they abandoned the very candidate.  And does the candidate get mad about it?  Hell no.  Nothing about this makes any sense in the real world.

RUSH: Here’s Burt.  Burt in Detroit.  Nice to have you on the EIB Network, sir.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hi.  Thank you, Rush.  You don’t have to explain everything because you have a smart audience.  You know, didn’t you have some statistics that showed that your audience is a little better educated, they’re more thoughtful, they’re active listeners, thinkers.

RUSH:  Yeah, yeah.  Annenberg, Kathleen Hall Jamieson has done some studies and found this, and so has Pew. The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, has found that people that listen to this program are more informed than people that watch television news shows or read papers.  Yes, the most informed media audience out there, exactly right.  Good memory you have there, sir.

CALLER:  Well, I’m just thinking, you know, they show that Hillary Clinton’s voting demographics were less educated and so forth.  Is that what Colin Powell wants for the Republican Party?  He wants to sort of dumb down the Republican Party and move the demographics down?

RUSH:  No, that’s not what it is. They don’t want any opposition.  There has been a resentment of conservatives and conservatism in the Washingtonian class of the Republican Party for a long time.  This criticism of General Powell is truly mindless.  When you look at it just on its face, the Republican Party should stop listening to me.  They haven’t for the longest time.  This attempt to impugn the audience of this program and others like it is typical Washingtonian.  They look at average people, the people who make the country work, with contempt.  The things he said about Sarah Palin, he felt personally insulted that she kept talking about people in small towns and their values.  Everybody knows what she meant, everybody knew what she meant by that.  But he had to go and take it personally about he thought he was being insulted because he was from the south Bronx and his values weren’t any good because he didn’t come from a small town.  I think it’s all BS.  I don’t even know that he really believes that stuff.  You know, frankly, I’m surprised he gets this upset about this stuff.  And he’s not even a Republican.  He says he is, but he’s endorsing Obama.  This is all crazy to spend a whole lot of time on, folks, because it’s so easily explicable, and it doesn’t have anything to do with what it sounds like it has to do with when these people start talking as he does.
